* Homework contributes toward building responsibility, self-discipline and lifelong learning habits; for these reasons, the 6th grade team believes that homework is an essential part of every child’s learning experience.
* Students will have homework every night, with the exception of SELECTED Fridays/weekends. Students are also required to read for 45 minutes a night and record their reading in their INDEPENDENT READING LOG.
Homework Expectations:
1. Sixth-grade students will be assigned homework EVERY night (except MOST Fridays) in Reading, Math, and Writing/Vocabulary.
2. Sixth-grade students are given a Vocabulary Packet on Monday of each week.
3. Homework is expected to be neat and complete. If students are struggling with a particular problem or part of their homework, we encourage parents to write us a note or e-mail us so that we may address it with the student the next day.
4. Students who do not complete homework will be held at recess and/or after-school until the work is complete and turned in.
5. The sixth-grade teachers will be holding Academic Conferences with the parents/guardians of students who are chronically or consistently missing work. If needed, an Academic Assignment Plan will be put in place to help support the student in completing their work.
* I encourage and recommend that all students schedule a regular routine for completing homework. On average, students should anticipate having approximately 60 minutes of homework daily in their academic classes (Please Note: This does not count the 30-40 minutes of independent reading they should be doing every night).
